Hi there,
I absolutely love my current 8800 GTX and am getting 25fps all high in 1900 x 1920 in Crysis which is reasonable, but by no means good. I want to get another one and SLI them up. I have the nvidia 590 mobo so thats all good, the only thing im concerned about is my PSU.. its 750w but it only has two 6 pins... do i need another PSU with at least 4 6 pins? or can i use some sort of module or adapter to get SLI working with my current PSU.

I bought a 9800gx2 but had to return it becuase it was performing so poorly with Crysis!! Much worse than my single 8800GTX.

If anyone has any other opinions on how i can gain more FPS in Crysis, this would be much appreciated. Iv played the game thro 3 times, but to say i am obsessed with it is an understatement!

Power supply will probably run it. But no guarantees. New GTXs ship with adapters that will turn a standard 12v into a 6 pin PCI-E plug.

However Id be more concerned about the 590 SLI mobo.

Id be more inclined to sell the entire machine and build from scratch as relying on or upgrading a Dell is shakey at best.

What is the +12v amperage on your Dell PSU?
Assuming it is up to par, you will need a pair of These, assuming they don't already come with the GPU.

i though Dell are build in a way that wouldnt let you upgrade?!no?

and i think you need to upgrade the PSU as dell only put in bare minimum for the PC to work.

from what i've heard, dell under-rates their psus, which may or may not still be true. i would honestly be more concerned about the motherboard. also, unless you're buying a used one for cheap, i would suggest getting rid of your current 8800GTX, possibly sell that one on ebay, and buy a 4870x2, or a 4850x2.

really i would just get a completely new rig instead!

thats not a terrible idea either. it is a bit dated.

Not everyone's made of money, that setup is still pretty darn good.
On the PSU, I would get a new one, maybe a Corsair TX750W, simply because I don't trust factory PSU's.

Nothing wrong with that rig.
An E6600 might only be a midrange CPU today but it is still nothing to shake a stick at.
The 590i SLI offers full 16x 16x SLI so what's the problem upgrading it?

The biggest limiting factor is the fact that Crysis supposadly doesn't scale well with SLI. So this whole upgrade may or may not net a very big FPS boost.

I thought crysis scaled quite well with SLI, it was CF that had trouble. Oh, and I'd tend to think that PSU would be fine, though if you do want to replace it, dell uses standard ATX units in the XPS gaming computers.

crysis scales pretty well with sli. @ 1680x1050, all very high, 16aa. my single gtx 260 get around 18-24fps with my 2 gtx260 in sli i get 28-35fps.
as for the psu if it has 40+amps on the 12vrail it should be fine.

Hey guys, I was never too kean on trying out SLI, but lately I have taken interest in it, but I'm wondering on what to do really... These are my current specs:

- XFX 8800GTX XT edition 768mb
- Intel D975XBX2 (planning on replacing it with an MSI P7N SLI Platinum nForce 750i)
- Q6600 OC'ed to 3.0
- 4GB DDR2 PC6400 Corsair XMS2 DHX 834Mhz
- 500GB 7200rpm Maxtor
- 20" Samsung syncmaster 205bw

I game at the native resolution of 1680x1050 ofcourse. But the real question is:

'Would I get better fps with another 8800gtx and put that in SLI ?'

OR...

Should I just buy 2 260 gtx's and put them in SLI.

I would appreciate any opinions on this matter,

thanks people.

ur better off getting 1 GX2 for the price of the 8800 GTX :P. Crysis actually doesn't scale too well with sli or crossfire (it scales better in SLI though, thank Nvidia). I think its around 30% scaling but I'm not sure. :P Crysis warhead doesn't scale as well as Crysis though.
