Our Canadian friends are finally getting some love from newegg! :D

http://www.newegg.ca/

China too http://www.newegg.com.cn/

What about newegg.eu? Our European friends are still stuck without newegg :(

For those that love open source, Newegg does sell some Linux / Free BSD friendly hardware and even sells SUSE Enterprise :) Apparently they no longer sell any desktop Linux distributions :(

Yeah, what's up with that?

Europe is always getting left out.

Something to ponder.

Do you have to smuggle your parts in to get a nice PC for a reasonable price or what? ;)

Interestingly newegg does sell the ASUS eee PC with Linux pre-installed -- xandros to be exact.

I download my open source software but it's nice to see online retailers selling open source software and hardware :)

Most people are not even aware open source exists.

Xandros was the first version of Linux that I tried. As you well know it's a version that's not free but is very easy for newbies and Windows users to install and use.
I am using Ubuntu Linux on several machines right now. It's pretty easy for newbies but just a little harder to use than Xandros.People are getting fed up with excessive DRM in Windows and especially newer PC games.Myself I bought thousands of non DRM PC games several years ago. These work great for Windows 98 and Windows 2000.
A person can have a great machine dual booting Linux with the older versions of Windows.Best of both worlds.Linux for the Internet and older versions of Windows with non DRM Games.Excessive DRM just sucks.

I completely agree DRM sucks!

Linux, all the BSDs and many other open operating systems are DRM free and getting easier to install and use by the day.

Ubuntu http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/downloadmirrors is very good and very easy to use. Fedora http://fedoraproject.org/en/get-fedora is not far behind.

BSD http://www.freebsd.org/where.html is more technical but it is a very nice, stable OS.

FreeDOS http://www.freedos.org/ is interesting and ReactOS http://www.reactos.org/en/index.html is coming along.

Open Solaris http://www.opensolaris.com/ is an option too.

Dell sells PCs with Ubuntu installed. You can actually get a desktop from Dell with a dual-core CPU, 2GB RAM, 250GB hard drive, and Ubuntu for ~$260 after you remove the monitor.

A system with Linux pre-installed from Dell, ASUS or other vendors may be suitable for those that do not want to install themselves, although the install process is quite simple for someone with an understanding of computers :)

The Ubuntu installer only has 7 steps and is pretty much self-explanatory :)

On a fast, modern computer Ubuntu shouldn't take more than 5-10 minutes to install.
