Auto shutdown of external hard drive in a docking station when not in use

Hi,

I have some external hard drives running in docking stations (e.g. BlackX by Thermaltake). They are connected via USB to my computer, and run continually. Unfortunately, I only need one of them once a day, another once a week, and another once a month. (That is the backup schedule) Has anyone ever heard of an external docking station that will power down the drive when not in use? It seems like such a waste of energy to run a drive all month when it only gets used a few hours of that time. But I would need it to wake up automatically when the scheduled task calls for the drive to start the backup.

Thanks,
Jamar

You can run Genie Backup and have it shut down your whole PC after a backup. I dont know about HDD only though. I think your gunna be stuck with using a Green Drive if you want to save energy.
