6. What is the function of the address bus and its layout.
7. How many nibbles in a byte, how many bytes in a ..... all the way to gigabytes.
8. What is the purpose of the north bridge?
9. What is the maximum amount of ram that can be used on a 32 bit address bus?
10. What number zif socket does the 486 and pentium have?

There used to be websites that offered sample tests. You got to get 'em all wrong, and then they told you the right answers.

It's helpful to get used to what they want. That was a few years ago. Everything was multiple guess - they deduct wrong answers.

Basically if you know 486 tek, and early pentium, and usb, firewire specs, and a thousand other basics, yer in. It's about the basic tek behind the obvious tek. Knowing which cpu oclox will not help you.

Knowing basics like I/O, bus, mem types, slots, conflicts, drvs, registry, raid, wireless, speeds of standards. Either you know or you don't.

Questions are sometimes trix.

:)

Definitely Try to Grab Sample Tests.

The problem with the tests is that the answers are frequently wrong or there could be multiple correct answers depending on a number of factors.

The "Sample" tests will lead you to the correct answer.

I've never taken the A+ Exam, but I know the MS Certs are written more by their Marketing Dept than anything based on how things really work.

25. What's the first thing you do before changing a CPU?

First thing, I look over applicant references. Then I make sure a very small deposit is required before I change anything that is working fine. Like thermal compound, only a little is needed. 'Hoops, Someone's at the door. Must be the new Escort Service. I'll get back to you later.

that is alot of questions. why not use google i dont think anyone has the time to answer all of those. Do you have a book? answers might be in the back or there might be a site on the book where u can check online for answers.

The problem with us answering those questions for you is it won't help you at all.

A+ exams are randomly generated by questions they have in the computer system they test you on.

Grading scale goes from 0-949 points. Anything above 740 is a passing score. I scored 940 on my hardware part of the exam for example. Only got about 800 on the OS software test, since there were a lot of changes going on with APIC just coming out, and changes to WinXP.

Yeah there was some weird **** when I took mine. Bunch of questions about DUN which was before my time and a lot of it was not in my study materials.

I need to take it again I guess, they changed the exam since I had taken it in '04.

nETWORKING? oops caps.

Networking? Isn't that a separate course? Or was it like "What is a NIC"? or mac addy, protocols, etc.

I studied it but never took the test. :) I always did better on hardware in the sample tests.

I think I missed my calling.

Honestly dude, do you really expect someone to sit down and type/copy/paste all those answers for you when you could easily find most of them yourself withing 10 minutes by just using Google?
If this is an indication of how much effort you're putting into YOUR studies then I have serious doubts you will get a passing grade.
Regardless of that, I wish you luck in the test.

21. What is the difference between the celleron and the pentium?

One has a puny cache and slow FSB, but revs up like a new boy should before it goes into a short refactory period. The other runs hot with it b***s tied around it's wrist and got it's keester kicked by AMD. I was an excellent student, I really was.

The answer to one question is c and a but not d and b and some times none of the above.

HINT: e

Choose e.

I passed a biophysics course using this technique. I no longer respect the education system.

Im About to do something really stupid. Ill reply. Slow day at work and All. The problem is, they want specfic info. And your making more or so generalistic questions.

1. Describe the external data bus, its function and layout.
R: Witch one ?

2. Purpose of a register, as it pertains to the workings of a CPU.
R: If i recall correctly this one is neeeded atm in OOO cores. There is the Register, Dispatcher, Replay and Lock mechanisms. The you got fetch mecanisms. It is a really big question. Dispatcher basicaly does what its name says.
Organizes the information to be processed, might have a register of everything (stack). There are great white papers on this.

3. The clock, and why is it necessary for the CPU to work.
R: It is needed for the computer to work. You got several clocks really. You cannot just call it clock.
It is needed to sync RAMs with CPUs and all sort of good stuff inside a PC. You might wanna look what a IRQ is in this matter. To long to explain in a forum, but your making the wrong question.

4. What determines the speed that the CPU and the rest of the computer work at?
R: Everything and nothing. Arquitecture mainly. Base line ussually 100 or 133mhz.
HIgher frequencies are ussually multiplied by on of those. High frequency is only possible when encapsulated.

5. What is a chipset?
R: Good heavens. I refuse to reply to that.

6. What is the function of the address bus and its layout.
R:Look at Reply nr 2. If you pick up there youll find the adress bus pretty soon.

7. How many nibbles in a byte, how many bytes in a ..... all the way to gigabytes.
R: Do you have good looking sisters ? Or cousins, im also ok with that.

8. What is the purpose of the north bridge?
R: Connect stuff. Look to a motherboard. What hell does that chip there ussually between the CPU & RAM ?
They can connect more stuff, but varies from NorthBridge Models.

9. What is the maximum amount of ram that can be used on a 32 bit address bus?
R: 4GB. Protected Mode. You better start reading some white papers. About 386 Arquitecture.

10. What number zif socket does the 486 and pentium have?
R: Sckt 3,5 and 7.

11. What is the SCC and what cartridges use them?
R: That good looking female cousin comentary applies here too.

12. What is multi-processing and which intel chip was the first to support it?
R: P54C. if i recall correctly.

13. What are DRAM, SRAM and what are they used for?
R: Dynamic and Sychrnomous. Google it !!

14. What is the ram cache and what does it do for the CPU?
L1, L2, L3, resolve locks and store information to be processed. And a bit more, but basicly it.

15. What is dual and quad pipe lining?
R: You should get tailoring classes for it.

16. What is the reason the clock speed multipliers have been encorporated into the CPU?
R: To be synced with the rest of the PC that works at 100 or 133, and high frequencies can only
be achieved in a encapsulated environment due to electro-magnetic interference.

17. What is the purpose of CPUs with different voltages?
R: You should see the show "Ask Paul Gelsinger and Dirk Meyer Talk Show". Its pretty cool.

18. What is dynamic processing and how does it speed up the computer?
R: Never heard of it. Is this something from the old Alpha Stations ?

19. What is the L1, L2, and L3 cache and where is it located?
R: On-die. Means, in the Silicon Chip.

20. What is MMX?
R: WIKIPEDIA !!!!! RULEZ MY SOCKS !!

21. What is the difference between the celleron and the pentium?
R: Money, cache and sticker.

22. What's a frontside bus and backside bus do?
R: Although backside bus sounds gay, it does exist. For both questions, go wiki and search fro FSB and BSB.

23. What is a Xeon CPU and what is the difference between it and the Pentium 4?
R: Microcode, Warranty and sticker. And price of course.

24. What is 64 bit processing?
R: IAMD64, IA64....ad infinitum ? Well, BASICALY , the CPU reads twice the info. The Word is 64 bits instead of 32bits.

25. What's the first thing you do before changing a CPU?
R: Let it cool, then change the HS.

26. What do you use to attach a heatsink to a CPU?
R: Sledge Hammer.

27. What is overclocking?
R: Welcome. Your in the right place.

I've seen dumber questions.
Years ago on an exam I was asked what the 1st Install Disk was labeled: DISK1, DISK_1, DISK 1, or DISK-1

Talk about stupid........................
