I have a P5KPL-AM SE and am trying to overclock an E2220.

I've got it stable with the fsb at 236MHz but any higher and it crashes in games, temps are not a problem.

I've got one stick of pc2-5300 and one stick of pc2-6400 in it.

I've tried raising the V-Core and memory voltages but it does not help AT ALL.

This just seems like a really low overclock does anyone have any suggestions?

I've tried only using the pc2-6400 and it doesn't go any higher than with them both in.

Leave that 5300 stick out of the board for now, set your memory ratio as low as possible.

You've indicated the cpu and memory voltages were raised, but not how much they were raised and from what starting point.

Set your board back to default or clear CMOS, find out what your normal voltages are by leaving them on Auto. Write them down.

I don't normally do this unless there is a problem I can't fathom, but drop your multiplier to 10, set the cpu and memory volts to the values you've recorded (don't leave on Auto).

Start at 230MHz, save, boot into Windows, back out into BIOS, up 5MHz, save, etc. go up in 5MHz amounts so see if you can clear the 236MHz threshold. If you can get past that try for 260 then 266.

If 230 and 235 work, but 240 doesn't, try cpu voltage increase up to 1.3750V. If you can't get 240x10 with 1.3750V, there's something very wrong going on... because it's the same stock speed of 2.4GHz, just higher clock with lower multiplier.

Your board will run at 400MHz (OC) and has the usual 333, 266 and 200MHz FSB's, so 236 is nowhere near it's maximum speed.

See how you go.

Leave the 6400 ram in only.
Set the ram to 667.
It will run 250 FSB.

Ive used these boards alot with ddr 800 and 250 FSB is the magic spot. If you want to go more then 250 you will need ddr2 1066 ram.

I dont believe there is any cpu voltage setting either, its been a while but Im thinking there aint.

What do you expect from such a low end cheap motherboard?

I did not realise this board was such a lack-lustre affair. Perhaps it is too much to ask for more than 250 from this board without having 1066 modules in place.

Ok guys I'm back and have found the problem.... it was actually the faster ram. The pc2-6400 that was the problem.

My friend gave me this stick awhile back because his computer simply wouldn't recognize it (even tho he bought them in pairs and the other stick worked fine.)

I'm guessing something is wrong with it and only using the pc2-5300 I can hit over 250mhz where with the pc2-6400 it wouldn't even post.

Oh and daship there IS a cpu voltage setting, along with ram, and chipset voltage settings. The board is very cheap today but I'm guessing just because it's a few years old and based off the G31 chipset. It was probably a fair bit more expensive in 2007. But yes it is lacking a few features like the ability to set your own ratio from cpu to ram. All it gives you is ram speeds.

I had the FSB at 265mhz and I could get into windows however prime 95 crashed instantly, 250mhz fsb is stable.

So whats the max fsb pc2-5300 should be able to run at?

250, thats why I said downclock the 800 to 667, same as just running your 667 now, @ 667 ram 250 is the max stable FSB your gonna get.

The straps on this board suck. To get more then 250 you need 1066 ram period.

I used to use these religiously in budget builds, now I use a g31 gigabyte board for hackingtoshes, both boards are the sam in the ram department. Need 1066 ram to bump up the FSB.

Ah, so do you have any good links for some 1066mhz ram? I'm probably going to get 2X2GB to future proof myself.

Forget "future proofing". i5 and i7 are here. What you will do is extend the useful life of the system.

Meh that's what I meant by future proofing.

I'm preparing myself for the future by only having to buy new ram once, instead of only getting 2gb I'll have 4gb so i'll be ready for the future once applications need that much memory and save money in the end.
