There has got to be an easier way to make a USB key bootable than what I'm finding on the Web!!

Many of the articles are using applications and other stuff that is several years old. Yes, Windows XP is several years old but haven't things progressed since then?

Isn't there an easy, non-DOS, non-ancient Windows operating system files way of making a bootable USB key? One method requires downloading the 300+ MB Server 2003 SP1 or some such file!

Am I just missing something extremely obvious?

I found many posts here on Tom's asking for help with no replies. Is booting from a USB key like using hybrid SLI? Somebody's great idea that nobody uses?
