  1. I can't say anything about the new samsung drives, but I know samsung had a reputation for "excellent after-service, low reliability" (certainly not bad, but less reliable perhaps) within Korean community for some time now. I expect better reliability for the new generation drives though.

WD seem to have good reputation for reliability, though I haven't heard of any issues regarding both drives (they're all fairly new anyway).
  2. I saw that someone had posted this link in a different form. I thought that it may be helpful to you.
    http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/2009-3.5-desktop-hard-drive-charts/h2benchw-3.12-Avg-Write-Throughput,1013.html
  3. I had the same issue and did a quick comparison of both from the stats on this page:
    http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/2009-3.5-desktop-hard-drive-charts/benchmarks,50.html

Here are my scribbles that were of most importance imho:

    samsung -- read, write throughput
    samsung -- minor-less sound
samsung -- write, read access time
    WD -- minor-windows vista startup
    samsung -- minor-temp
    WD -- application loading
    samsung -- power req(idle too)
    WD -- IO

WD did better in most PCMark Vantage, I will probably buy the 1Tb Spinpoint F3.

    Hope that helps
