Okay, I currently have 4 gigs of ram installed (2x2) and I went and bought two more 2 gig sticks for a total of 8 gigs. Well, windows doesn't go to the login screen and I've tried different combinations with the sticks, and also no sticks are dead.

All sticks are DDR2 800 - 6400.

I've messed with the DDR2 voltage, NB voltage, and even SB voltage, and to no avail. Perhaps chipset voltage?

Any suggestions, PLEASE, haha.

Also, some specs on my computer:
Vista Ultimate 64 bit
850 watt psu
eVGA 9800gx2
Phenom 9950
Fatal1ty Professional Titanium Series

Also, the motherboard is a Crosshair 2 Formula (780a chipset)

Are all memory modules identical and on the QVL?

Try lowering the Mhz from 800 to 667. I had the same problem running 6gbs in 4 slots. It would still crash though....

The new ram is not on the QVL, but that might not matter. The QVL might be more advertising and just ones that have been checked before, and there might be a BUNCH of different types of ram that work but aren't on the QVL.

As for the lowering the mhz to 667, i'd rather keep it at 800, There's probably some way to get all 8 to work fine.

Thanks for the posts so far ^_^
Anyone else?

I just tried lowering the ram to 667, and that didn't work. I've also messed with vcore settings which didn't work either.

Also, the BSOD error I get is "0x00000007e" - which I've looked up and the service pack I have might already have the fix for that, so... ugh.

It works! I updated the bios (didn't know if it was that seeing as I just updated the bios earlier in October maybe because I had just got the computer, but there is a new bios update and VOILA!). May this help people in the future! Adios! =)
