Heyy guys I been researching for weeks and I am finally ready to order my parts to build a gaming computer. Just want to make sure I am not forgetting anything that will prevent me from getting everything to work. And like I said before, if there is anything you guys want to suggest changes, let me know.
Well here goes Case: Antec 300
PSU: Corsair 750w
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-X48-DS4
CPU: Q9450
CPU Cooling: XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 w/ bracket
Videocard: Visontek HD4870(getting a 2nd one later on for CF)
RAM: 4GB G.Skill DDR2 800 4-4-12
HD: Western Digital 640GB
DVD Drive: Samsung 20x DVD-RW SATA
OS:Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit
Monitor: SAMSUNG 2253BW
It just feels like I'm missing something important but I'm probably not, need some reassurance lol
i would really wait for the 4870 X2 release.. and CF those, if the X2 is too much for you then thats fine
if you're not going to use the full 640GB.. get the Seagate ES.2 250GB 32MB cache.. my comp from the moment i turn on the power button i get to the desktop in under 20 seconds
and if you can afford a Velociraptor go ahead and do it.. also might try checking out the Western Digital new Caviar Black line
case is totally your option but my fave case is thermaltake armor + mx
replace the xigamatek fan with the scythe ultra kaze.. best 120mm fan on the market
and if you could replace all stock 120mm fans with the ultra kazes... you'll have your cpu running as if it was liquid cooled.. seriously
WHAT IS YOUR BUDGET so i can work around for a more solid build..
this would be mine... coincedently very similar to yours
Case: Thermaltake Armor+ MX
Case Fans: Scythe "Ultra-Kaze"
CPU: Q9450
CPU Cooling: Xigmatek HDT-S1823 w/bracket
TIM: Artic Silver 5
VGA: Asus 4870 (9% faster than the other brands on stock lol)
VGA Cooling: Thermaltake DuOrb
HDD: Western Digital Velociraptor 300GB 10K RPM
PSU: Corsair TX 750W
RAM: G. Skill Pi Series 2x2GB DDR2 1066 5-5-5-15
Monitor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6824236033
but even if you stayed with your choices it is still a solid build ;] nice choices..
oh i think they used the stock push pins on the xigmatek on those reviews.. correct me if they did
but it is true however using the push pins won't make great enough contact with the CPU as it should because the push pins aren't suppose to support the xigmatek's weight anyways so the xigmatek sort of loses some contact but the aftermarket brackets fix that problem and make it more safe.. therefore getting more contact with the cpu so lower temps
LAP the cpu for best performance ONLY IF YOU KNOW HOW don't try on your own.. and apply the AS5 correctly..
for your CPU do this method..
and the ultra kaze fan will push to even lower temps... 130 CFM @ 3000 RPM holy fizzle right?! :] i know
Something I always recommend to anyone who doesn't already have one:
an Uninterruptable Power Supply.
$50 or $60 is cheap insurance against brownouts, blackouts, and surges, on top of allowing you to save your work and shut down Windows in an orderly fashion when the power goes out, or have the monitoring software shut down apps & Windows if you're away from the computer.
APC, or CyberPower, are both good choices.
I use 2 small CyberPower units and split the load with one UPS for the monitor & other accessories, and one UPS for the computer alone (I use the "Surge Only" outlets for all non-critical accessories on both UPS'es, so only the monitor, scanner, and computer have battery backup).
At idle, I have about 10-minutes before loss of power (if I'm away), and under full load I have about 5-minutes before loss of power.

The Vendetta 2 does look like a very good fan, but it is a little too pricey. For sure I'll look back into it though when start to OC.
tonyluu,
My budget including monitor is about $1500. Right now the total is about $1579.00 lol.
I'm using Vista Ultimate that I bought for my laptop when it first came out. It came with both a 32 bit and 64 bit version. Hoping to cut costs with the OS but if Vista Home is better then I will have to look into it. Plus my laptop which already has it installed is going to be in the same network as the new comp, so I'm probably going to have to cough up the money to buy Vista again if theres conflicts with the CDKEY
That Asus board looks really good but I think the Gigabyte one should do because of the cost.
I was thinking about waiting on the 4870x2, but I have a friend that would buy my HD4870 if decided to go with the 4870x2 whenever it comes out.
I was thinking about if I was ever going to use 640GB, I'm probably not so I went with the HD you said.
For the case, the one you have is cool, but I don't really like cases with the window and the Antec 300 is like only $54.99 so I think I'll stick with that. I want to swap the fans out with those kaze ones, I just need to do some research to see if it will fit in the Antec 300.
I also added the those VGA fans to my cart, I was looking for something like that since I know the 4850/4870 gets really hot.
For the RAM, I think I'll add the ones you suggested cause I'm pretty sure I'll OC them sooner or later.
Thanks for the help guys and more inputs are welcomed!

Q9450 ~330
Velociraptor ~300
Asus EAH4870 ~285 + 35(TT DuOrb) = ~320
Xigmatek HDT-S1823 w/bracket = ~44
Corsair TX 750W ~120
G. Skill Pi 2x2GB DDR2 1066 5-5-5-15 ~110
Monitor~279
Antec 300 ~70
4 Scythe Ultra Kaze for case fan mod (1 more for replacement of xigmatek fan this one is the most recommended) = ~50
Artic Silver 5 ~7
Your DVD burner ~28
Total $1660 with no OS >__>
and if you really need all the features of vista ultimate go ahead.. i think they are useless unless you really are a business person
for now.. you can exclude the TT DuOrb, Xigmatek and the Ultra Kazes.. if you really can't push that budget past $1500
the only reason the HD4000 series get hot because the stock fan speed for the rest of the cards but Asus have no fan speed control and is clocked at prob 30% lol you can keep your cpu and vga fine if you turn up the fan speed on the 4870 to 100% just don't OC yet.. and wait until you have enough money for the cooling then you can OC :]
also if you still won't use all of 300GB get the 150GB raptor version..
and then you could get the cooling and everything for $1530 still no os..
LOL and don't get 8GB ram bobbknight is not so smart..
IF YOU CAN WAIT TO BUY THE PARTS do so and save up some more money so you won't regret it :]

I think I'll stick with the 250GB seagate you mentioned earlier and I'll switch up to the 1066 RAM and buy all the extra cooling stuff when I start to OC.
Yeahh, I love the Antec 300 because I wanted a black case that wasn't too wild with the window and LEDs lol
