Hooking up a second computer

Hello,
I have my main computer in the house, im putting one in my garage I have cable running to both the house and garage. I purchased a modem for the garage hooked it up and it says its not receiving a signal?? I do have multipal tvs hoooked up too (in the house) I guess my ????? is can u hav 2 computers on the same cable system with-out a router? The garage is a ways off from the house. only one modem per household. Your ISP will only give you one IP; therefore, you should use a router.

Nope, you need a router, and network adapter.
