Hey

Not sure what the problem with this is but I had an old headset and I was getting crackling on the microphone.

I bought a new one and I'm still getting static noise and crackling.

Any ideas how I can solve it?

I just tried the mic on Vista sound recorder and the audio has no static, it's crystal clear.

But on certain programs such as steam, ventrilo, counterstrike and probably loads more it's really crappy quality :s

Sounds like a problem with your sound card. Might be worth investing in a new one.

Right now I'm using onboard audio?

There's your problem so. Onboard solutions are normally pretty poor, and receive interference from the motherboard, resulting in DC buzz. A PCI sound card should sort everything out.

Just to be sure though, try your mic in a different PC or laptop, could just be a dodgy mic.

Would that still be the case despite my mic being fine in Skype and windows sound recorder?

I'll try it on another computer though.
