mobo - good for xfire
CPU - get a e8400, it is easy to OC and games don't use all 4 cores yet... not worth getting a quad core yet.
get a WD 640 caviar HD
if you are going to do xfire, you will need a better PSU, take a look at a 750tx
Nice set up. I like duel slot video cards becasue they blow all of the hot air out of the case and not recirculate it. Got a card you could throw in that case until the prices come down on a 4870? Always nice to let the hot air out...
PSU... um.... who the hell makes it? I like my toughpower 750. I recomend a good quality PSU. If you are doing CF, then definatly get at least a 750 quality PSU. You won't need 1000 w or anything, but it doesn't hurt to have the joice if you need it. 750 or 850 w would be enough.... Actually, with your water cooling rig, go for 850. =)
slayeron444 thanks for the cpu advice but i think ill stick with the quad on this one since it will only cost me +2000yen more. but your right about the HD and PSU.
hairycat101 got 8600gt right now you think thats enough?
right now i have:
amd athlon 64 2x 6.0ghz (not oc)
4g transcend memory
msi p9n sli platinum
8600gt
gonna sell this week so i was thinking new rig will be good for atleast 3 years (optimistic)
im new to OC'ing actually its gonna be the first time for me.
ive been reading a lot and q6600 is on the top of many reviews...
i bought the wc to test if i can overclock my current rig but i cant find anything bout my cpu...
ill take the advice for HD and PSU... anything else???
thanks for the quick response guys!
Hmmm... good question on the GPU. Really only one way to find out if it will get you by for a few months waiting for pricing to come down... Try it and see. If you find you can't stand the quality, then upgrade to one ATI card. If that still isn't enough, then upgrade for the other. I'm very hesitent to recomend spending money to upgrade on something that won't yeild a noticable performance gain. Honesty, though, I think that 8600 is going to have a tough time of things. Really that depends on the monitor you have and the resolutions you need. If id doesn't work, the only thing it will have cost you is time.
A note on the Q6600. It is nice and usualy will OC ok... for a quad core. The extra cores make extra heat and it also comes out much more sinsitive to high FSB frequancies. Raising the FSB is the only way to OC it. Unless you luck out with a golden chip, the Q 6600 won't OC like a duel core CPU.
That ram is likely more then enough. With the limitations on FSB from the use of the quad core, I bet you wouldn't notice any difference between that ram and some plain old DDR2 800.
If you want to OC I would suggest the dual core personally.
Since you said your mainly playing games I think that the higher speeds on a dual-core will suit you in addition.
In my opinion it is no longer cool to have a quad core just to have one.
I was tempted to get one a year ago and am sooooooo happy I didn't.
I would have just wasted money on a slower processor.
