My mom has a computer that was built for her a while back with a microstar 945PL Neo motherboard, im trying to upgrade her memory by putting in a 512 mb DDR-PC2 5300 module. I know how to install ram and have lined them up properly but for all my strength it wont click into place. Whats going wrong? do i need to get out the hammer?

Look into the DIMM socket on the MB. Line up the 'key' in the slot with the 'key' on the RAM. Otherwise, maybe the MB DIMM slot is damaged.

i just compared the key slot to my ddr2 memory and its tiny, about half the size. Could it be crappy ram which requires tremendous force to get in?

if it requires that much force to get in, its either NOT the right memory, or a defective module (as a manufacturing defect, since you mention the slot is smaller than your other module).
