I just recieved my Asus HD 4850 512MB from Newegg and its an open box item so its just the card. I didnt have the driver disk so I installed Catalyst 8.7 and got terrible performance/gliches. i then installed the 8.6 hotfix and it works much better but I think theres so much more potential in this card. For anyone that owns a 4800 series card, what is the best driver/software i can use to get this card running as well at it should?

btw, my computer says new found hardware every time i start up and it says its a PCI component not PCI-Express. also the system recognized it just as 4800 series not 4850...

The answer is Time. It will take some time for the drivers to solidify. They will almost certainly get better over the next few driver releases. Its just a new card and a bit ahead of the driver development teams ability to squeeze the power out of it.

Its the HD audio that is coming up as new hardware. Its in the driver package. Just have to dig into a few folders. Happens with my 3850.

Oh I forgot to tell you all I have Windows XP 32-bit. Is this going to be a problem for me?

Also I have an Athlon X2 4200+ and 2.5GB I plan on upgrading to a 3.2GHz dual-core and a CF mobo soon

When I look at the driver information under device manager for 4800 series it says its in PCI slot 1 (PSI bus 1) and the driver is 8.501.1.0 although it is clearly 8.6 in the CCC. Just seems sketchy to me. I'll be fine without the driver disk right?
