I'm going to buy a dell laptop for christmas but not sure whether it's worth the CPU upgrade, there are 2 models I am looking at and apart from the CPU they have exactly the same spec. One has a Pentium Dual Core 2GHz (667MHz FSB, 1MB L2 Cache) and the other is £50 more and has a Core 2 Duo 2GHz (667MHz FSB, 2MB L2 Cache).
Is the core 2 duo worth the extra £50, will I notice much (if any) difference between the 2? I don't mind paying the extra £50 to get the C2D if it is much better but thought I would see what other peoples opinions are first. Thanks

sorry forgot to post the model, the pentium dual core is T3200 and the core 2 duo is T5750. I'll have a look at the charts now

If you're just doing some websurfing and general office computing, the pentium will be just fine. It's a core2 with a cut down l2 cache. You only will really miss it when gaming.

Also forgot to say what I will be using the laptop for. No gaming at all, just web surfing, playing music, watching movies etc

Dont think I'll need extra ram, got 2GB with it already and as I'll be using linux I can't see me needing anymore so the extra money will probably go on a bigger HDD

^Well if using Linux, yeah, 2GB will be more than enough. Just curious what Linux distro do you plan to use? I recommend OpenSUSE or Fedora 9(Fedora 10 is Alpha right now). Ubuntu is OK, but I fin it a bit lacking, and dosen't have a lot of hardware support.

Will be using Arch Linux, tried loads of distro's and Arch was the fastest by far and IMO pacman is the best package manager.
