Ok, wanting to milk the most out of my 770 chipset board before I switch to intel after christmas, currently using a 4200+.

Here at the two CPUs im looking at, as both meet the 95w requirement of my board.

6000+ windsor, 3.0ghz 2mb L2 89w - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6819103233

6000+ brisbane, 3.1ghz 1mb L2 89w - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6819103272

Which of these would provide the best performance? Really just wanting this thing to get me through a few more games such as farcry2 / gta4. But since they are both the same price I want to make sure I pick the winner. :D

I'm no expert, but I'd say the Windsor, Ive always heard/read that games like cache, and with such a small difference in clock speed you would benefit more from the cache than the 100mhz.

besides you could overclock to 3.1 easily and get the 100mhz too.

The 6000+ at 3.0Ghz with 2Mb of cache is 90nm

The 6000+ at 3.1Ghz with 1Mb of cache is 65nm AND is a newer stepping.

I'd get the Windsor because you'll be able to overclock it to 3.1ghz, while maintaining the extra 1mb of cache.

On the K8's the size of the cache is not as important as it is on other CPUs. (A few percent at most.)

The 100Mhz difference is 3%. I'll take a guaranteed 3% over a possible 3%. And even though the newer 90nm are rated at 89W the 65nm should run cooler and use less power anyway.

you know why Celerons suck at gaming? because the cache is smaller. if it had the same amount of cache, a similarly clocked Celeron would be the same as a Core 2/Pentium.

The difference in cores for the 6000+'s is negligible since the only reason the newer one got the 6000 designation is because of the extra 100mhz. otherwise it would have been a lower model.

I did some research, and from [H] Forums I read a similar topic and well I'll let you decide what they think

One should not base how much cache has a impact on a cpu by comparing a K8 AMD to an Intel core/pentium/celeron.
