The problem is when i try to shut down the PC. It all goes as normal - fans, lights, monitor all off then about 2-3 seconds later it reboots back to the login screen.

I've tried several possible cures that have been posted in regards to this motherboard.

turned off "reboot on failure" settings in Vista
checked the BIOS for wakeup events - all off
checked power/reset in correct positions
single IDE optical drive in master postion to slave

the only strange thing is that the case has no reset switch so there is nothing to plug onto that pair on the motherboard.

I've patched the ASUS drivers that came with the PC and now it tries to reboot but only gets to the Post beep and stops

Any help would be appreciated

Could be a short in the case's power button or a short on the motherboard somewhere (for instance, if the motherboard was in contact with the case somehow).

I've checked all the points to secure the motherboard, CPU heatsink, case switch, sadly nothing untowards visible that would sugest a short.

damn thing must be faulty so its back to the supplier and a long wait
