DELL XPS 500GB LaCie not recognized

I have a 500GB LaCie Big Disk USB2 7200RPM 8MB USA external hard drive which works on my old 8400 Dell with windows XP on it.

I just got an Dell XPS and I plug in the hard drive and it doesn't get reconized. I went to Microsoft website for window 7 and it says the device is compatable, I've put in a ticket to LACie on the issue, and plan to contact Dell about the issue.

does anyone know why it would be being reconized?

Check that the USB ports are enabled in the bios.
Try a different USB port, try using the ports in the back panel.
Go to Disk management (Control Panel) and see if you need to assign a letter to it.
