Trying to get old hard drive running to transfer documents to new laptop, Desktop to a dump I have a Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 160GB SATA / 150 HDD. I bought an inland 3.5 external usb enclosure. The enclosure has the wrong connection to hard drive, the connection with the ribbon thingy? What can I do. Recomendations?

so what are you trying to do?

you have an old drive

you bought a new drive

so which drive is the enclosure for?

there are sata/pata converters....and if you got pata and sata power/data cables there is no doubt you could effectively convert the external enclosure....but the hard drive will likely have to sit out in the open, not in the enclosure

you should see if its possible to return the enclosure and by a pata one

also, reread your posts before posting, and check that they are intelligible

When buying an external enclosure, you need to pay attention to THREE interface details:
1. What interface between enclosure and computer? - USB, eSATA, Firewire, or a combo?
2. What interface between enclosure and the HDD that mounts inside - IDE (PATA) or SATA?
3. What type of drive is going inside - 3½" typical desktop HDD, or 2½" typical laptop unit, or something else?
