Hi all;

I'm assembling a new system and I'm a bit concerned that my processor / Mobo combination might not be enough to properly support the 4870x2 card I'm buying:

  • GIGABYTE GA-X48-DS4 LGA 775 Intel X48 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail
  • Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Wolfdale 3.16GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor Model BX80570E8500 - Retail


What do you folks recommend?

Just make sure to pick up a quality PSU now and you're set!

More detail:

I'll be running the games at 2560x1600. So this CPU + Mobo will run that monster card with no bottleneck at this resolution?

I want to make sure I get the appropriate processor for the job. I'd prefer not to spend any more than I need to, but it would be silly of me to drop $560 on a card and then not support it properly.

I'm putting together a similar setup atm...

I went with a quad core Q9550 proc but I did put an E8400 in my brothers computer and have been very impressed. Unless you're doing graphic design work, video editing, or CAD work you'll be very happy with the E8500.

Great choice on the PSU as well!
