Yes, this clock speed can be done all day long with G31's. I use JW-IG31-MKII boards. They hit the wall at 340MHz, but that's ok, set for 333 with a E5200 and drop the multiplier to 12 for 4GHz. However, I usually set them to 280x12.5=3.5GHz (1.375V) for most clients.

I've got one sitting there (e5200 + G31 + GTS250), will have to put an os on it, though. I can post a screen shot tomorrow.

It did have XP on it, so here's some results:

E5200 280x12.5=3.5GHz This is an everyday overclock, simple, takes about 30 seconds to do and works 100%.

3DMark06 13,800 with GTS250. Ok for a mb + cpu combination under usd100.00.

Here it is at 333MHz, sitting there, doing nothing at 3.8GHz.

Couldn't get it to 4GHz. Ah, well, nevermind. It will take a bit more fiddling to get the 3.8GHz stable anyway. Certainly looks like the G31M-ES2L is the way to go for 4GHz. I'll have to be happy with my 3.5. :??:

Go to this link:

According to the webpage for that M/B on the gigabyte website, it will not support the e3200 out of the box (it uses F3 out of the box). You have to first flash the bios with atleast version F9 in order to use the new celeron 3000 series. If I read what you say right, you used the e3200 on the gigabyte motherboard (GA-G31M-ES2L) without updating the bios?

I've noticed that a lot of M/B's do not support the e3200 without changes to the bios - even though they claim support for 45nm cpus.

Rev 1 need a bios update, I had revision 2 that ships with FC bios so it was fully supported. I keep a P$ @ home just for bios updating situations that arise.
