I am not a big hardware man. I always have trouble when it comes to hardware. Anyway, I recently bought a 2X2gb RAM kit and am trying to install it. I have a P5N-D and it seems to me that the pins won't secure the stick. No matter how I push or try to do it manually, the RAM does not want to secure.

Can anyone give me some pointers?

1) Do you have the correct type of ram? The notches on different types are keyed so that you can't use the wrong type. To verify that the ram is suitable, go to the ram vendor's web site, and access their configurator. Enter your motherboard, and you will get a list of compatible part numbers. Check that your ram is on the list.
2) Check that the notch on the stick lines up with the ridge in the ram slot. Face the ram the other way if one way does not work.
3) Push down on each of the two little levers at the end of the slot. Place the ram in squarely, and push down evenly on both ends of the stick at the same time. If done correctly, the little levers should swing up and lock the stick in place.

There is an explanation in the manual on page 2-18.
(You can download the manual: http://support.asus.com/download/d [...] ge=en-us).

Have you got the right type of RAM?

1. Yes DDR2-800 on my P5Nd
2.Yep
3.That's where things don't work for me. Left/Bottom locks fine, Right/Top doesn't want to go in far enough to lock

@ FreeDuck

Site recognized my Mobo and showed no downloads for it. Is that just a PDF of the manual?

For point 3, you have to push down on the whole stick evenly. If one side goes down before the other it will jam. Both ends have to go down at the same rate.

I'll give it another shot

You do have to push pretty hard to get the memory to lock in.

Also make sure it is oriented the right way. The notch on the memory and the RAM must match up.

"Pretty Hard" is hard to judge. My motherboard does flex so it's a bit disconcerting.

You may want to mount the ram and the cooler while the motherboard is outside of the case.

I'm upgrading, not really worth dismantling the system.

Some flexing is to be expected. But if you need to push it so hard it hurts your thumbs then there's something wrong. :P

That's the point I'm reaching. Too hard.

I just tried again. The bottom clip closed while the top will not. This is frustrating.
