They really aren't that bad. They only thing I'm disappointed in is how bad my raid performs.

Simple answer. Yes.

Yes, they are. Buy an Nvidia chipset board if you like high voltage and must have Sli.

Some x58 chipset boards for i7 will support sli. Pretty soon, there'll be no reason for Nvidia chipset. :p

Nothing wrong with chosing an nvidia chipset if you plan on SLI. If not, then a comparable Intel chipset will be a bit cheaper usually.

yeah, where i live nvidias are about double the price of a comparable intel. no kidding

It really matters on taste, the P35 boards for Intel are excellent overclocker's but the 680i is just as amazing in addition to it's SLI feature.

Google 680i and q6600 and you'll see a list of people with q6600 stuck at 2.8ghz. Or better yet, google 680i and "ram killer." :na:

"ram" killer? I did google it and seems more like a few reported dead memory, then every other "memory" related problems were lump together as "680i ram killer". It seems these reports were from late '06 - early '07, leads me to believe, early faulty BIOS and/or early adopters of 680i having inexperience with their mobos.

Overvolting memory isn't good on any board, period.

It was actually more of an inexperience of the motherboard developers.

i like my p45 chipset better than my old 680i chipset

From XFX at least, the 750/780/790i is comparable to the p45 series. Can't say anything about the 680i though.

Like others have said: Short Answer, Yes.

My long answer:
Im planning on dumping my Striker Extreme (Nvidia 680i) in about a week. Im tired of it hanging on boot, not recognizing HDs, and other random stupidity. Ive tried new BIOSes, tweaking RAM voltage, and 2 different PSUs. Its not running anything out of the ordinary, 1 hd, 1 dvd-rom, and an 8800GTX. Last night I tried to plug in an older 7200 rpm WD IDE 80 gig HD to pull some files before I retire it, and it would not recognize the HD regardless of what I did, different IDE cables, different 12v plugs, and even reseting the BIOS. Plugged this same HD into my X48 based machine, booted right up, pulled info, done. Simple, like it should be. This board will be replaced by a cheap P45 in the next week or so, as I have no use for SLI.

I know the 7XX boards are better, but still not perfect. Use these only if you need/want SLI.

Right now the Intel based mobos are far more stable, and have less issues.

agree 100%, i had problems like that with my 680i (asus p5n32-e sli) wouldnt reconize one of my hard drives plus the o/c sucked with that board so upgraded to a p45 chipset (gigabyte ep45-ud3p) for 130 its amazing, best 130 i have spent on anything, sli is pointless to me since i have a 19 inch monitor and spending more money on the same thing is stupid, especiallly if you buy 2 expensive cards and you need to upgrade your psu which is another like 200 for an 1000 watt psu, so i decided not to go with sli and just get one gtx 260

Must be a 600i series issue then, my 790i doesn't have any of these problems...
