I have an SD Card which I can read & write to on one computer, but on my other computer I keep getting a message that it is write protected. Windows XP...How do I remove the write protection?

The write protect on SD cards is determined by the socket. By a microswitch on the side of the socket, actually.

When the tab on the card is slid forward (towards the pins) the microswitch's arm should close the contacts, grounding the socket's write-protect circuit, thus making the card writable; If that circuit is open, the card cannot be written to.

If the arm that detects the position of the sliding 'Lock' tab on the card is damaged, then all cards you insert in that socket should say they are write protected.
