I am putting together a new rig and was unsure if these two components would work together. I have a ASUS p5wd2 premium motherboard that was given to me so I plan on using it. I have just bough a Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 and it is in the mail. after looking at the specs on my motherboard I found that it was only made for a few processor (or so I think) and I am unsure that these two parts will function together. can anyone lend me a hand?
The 955 chipset on your asus board won't run any of the newer Intel core2 duo or quad cpus. You'll need a different board. If you only use 2 memory sticks, I suggest a low end board, such as an ecs or biostar g31 with onboard video. Newegg sells some open box boards without the backplate or manual starting at around $38 shipped, if funds are tight. New they run about $58-65. When in doubt, look under "cpu support" on your board's website.
Alright, thanks a lot man. after looking at the cpu list youtold me about I now know that I need a pentium D. already have one picked out. looks like the Core 2 Duo is gettin Ebayed : ] thanks a lot for the help
