Hi folks,

mobo – Asus M4A78T-E

I'm prepared to purchase a DVD Writer, SATA connection.

I found;
Pioneer DVR-S18LBK 22X DVD Writer /Label Flash/SATA/

What does it mean /Label and Flash/SATA?

What will be your recommendation on maker/brand, no preset budget. TIA

P.S. Compatibility with mobo is important. Some DVD Writer can't boot DVD installer.

Sata is the motherboard interface -- standard on current boards.

According to Yamaha/FujiFilm:
"Labelflash™ uses an optical drive's laser beam to burn images onto the label side of a disc. Create finely detailed, and clear label designs using Labelflash™ discs."

Presumably the software stores an image that you use to create your personalised label and then if you use their special (no doubt expensive) discs, you can create these labels on the disc's reverse side.

Personally I use a waxy Chinagraph Pencil.

I have found Pioneer drives to be good, though I think it would be hard to find a bad drive these days.

Your DVD installer issue presumably refers to Blue Ray ?

Paul 67:

You could try cleaning the laser with a cleaning disc (only really recommended for drives with an opening drawer mechanism).

Or by cleaning the laser lens gently with a mild solvent like alcohol, if necessary stripping the drive down, if it's a desktop computer.

However, more likely the drive has simply failed -- and if a desktop computer it is quite easy to replace the drive.
