Hi, I just bought a 22" monitor, and I set it as 1280 x 960. My games are starting to run slow, I currently have a 8600 gt, I'm wondering if I should go with a new graphics card or a new system. I'm trying to be as cheap as possible while doing this.

My current system

Athlon 64 3700 sandiego
2 Gigs OCZ DDR ram
XFX 8600 gt graphics card
300 Gig sata 3
500 watt cooler master

i think you should go with a new system. cause thats what i would do. always a new system =P

proc seems pretty old though, maybe an e7200 with a p43 mobo would do the trick?

single core cpu + 8600gt is not gonna cut it if you want to running your games on higher settings...I had an Athlon 64 3400+ with an ati x1800xt and definitely could tell my processor was holding even the aged video card...

you are definitely gonna want to build a new rig...if you are on a tight budget, a decent X2 rig will do the trick :) ...if you got a big budget, high end intel is the way to go...

I'd probably scrounge for an old dual-core processor (provided your motherboard can use it). I saw an X2-3800 (2.0GHz) on EBay for under $25 + S&H.

I am not very knolegable with amd processors, but with your RAM, I can tell its definatly not enough for the new and very very power munchy games out there. your card is not powerful enough either, if you want to play on your native resolution which should be 1680x1050, a 8800gt or higher would be excellent for you.
