DDR2-1066 exists, JEDEC approved it a while ago but as a specialty standard and it only covers DDR2-1066 devices (i.e. chips). There is no PC2-8500 specification or standard for modules. And those are DDR2 modules, not DDR3.

Yes, 4gb is more than plenty for gaming.

However you only need 1066mhz RAM for overclocked dual CPUs, if you are not going to overclock heavily or have a quad core CPU then you are not going to use the extra frequency from 1066mhz RAM and the result will actually be slower due to usually worse timings. Basically if you plan to OC your FSB above 400mhz then you need 1066mhz RAM, otherwise 800mhz will have better results.

well i want to o/c my q6600 to 3.6 (fsb:400 x9 = 3600) but i dont know if my GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3R LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard can handle that (waiting to be shipped to me) under the mobos specs it supports fsb of 1066 and 1333 so does that mean it can support my o/c q6600 to that or it only supports stock fsb of 1600/1333?
also you said that it will be slower, how much slower? would it be slower then 800 mhz or still faster than that?

4gb is plenty for gaming. 1066mhz ram is actually going to increase performance, but it's only noticeable in benchmarks. I'd just get some good ddr2 800 ram and run it at a 1:1 ratio with the cpu. At 3.6ghz, 800mhz ram will still be at stock speeds.

Here's an article showing vista x64 with 8gb of ram.

alright, well i want my q6600 to be o/c to at least 3. i am going to try to go for 3.2 (400x8=3200) so if my fsb is at 400 would 1066 ram be a better buy? or get 800 mhz ram with tighter timings with a 1:1 ratio?
