G'day guys rather than poluting up to many other threads with my junk I just though I would put some benchy results out there so people know how good this i5 chip is.

All this was done with stock cooling and just a few quick changes to the bios

i5 750 @ 4ghz (still got more in it)
gtx 275 @ 722/15971232 (still got more in it)
stock cooling

PC mark 06 – 21296

http://i320.photobucket.com/albums [...] 621296.jpg

PC mark 05 – 30426

http://i320.photobucket.com/albums [...] 230426.jpg

* stock and stock the 3d 06 was around a touch over 17000.

(stock gpu)

Superpi @ 4.2ghz 1m = 9.906

http://i320.photobucket.com/albums [...] Record.jpg

(stock gpu) @ 4ghz
Userbench encode 2009 = 70.4
http://i320.photobucket.com/albums [...] de4gig.jpg

Just thought they might be usefull to someone

pretty happy with all those scores particularly the 3dmark scores which seem to be higher than simmilar i7 920 configs. both cpu and gpu have more in them, particuarly gpu. and with an aftermarket cooler i would be more comftable running benchies at higher clocks. so who knows. 23k or 24k 3d06 from a single 275? maybe. I Just love seing higher scores than people who shelled out ridiculous amounts of money for systems when mine cost ~ 1000AUD. (800USD)

cheers :D

I might have a bit more of a play over the next few days.

can anyone think of a creative way of keeping the chip/pc cool. id love to run some benchies at 4.2ghz but with only a stock cooler its a bit warm lol

and there aren't many aftermarket heatsinks for this commonly available in melb yet.

short of putting it in the fridge :D

You have to go back to those guys at Hard and stick it to them at the end of the thread you started ;)

problem is i started too many threads. trying to keep multiple forums updated with the stats and settings that i was doing (as there were people after information on the new i5 chip and all)

so with all my whoring i cant remember who or where people doubted me so i can do the i told you so post.

Lol 24th best i5 750 overclock so far :P. and still using my $29 cooler lol. go australia!

http://www.ripping.org/database.php?cpuid=1076

I assume it wont be up there for long lol once the teams get at it.

http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=726786

I just checked the site to see where people where at and I thought, wow i can get on there. so i cranked it up to 4536 MHz and validated :P

i can get to 4.705 but i need to disable 2 cores to get the 24x multiplier. so i dont think its fair to submit that. might not be counted anyway. the guys leading on air seem to be able to get 24x multiplier and run all 4 cores.

if anyone knows how to do this please let me know... but i wouldnt be suprised if it was a feature of the ud5/ud6/p55-delux/ $300+ boards they are using

edit: mofo. my superpi results cleared when i took out my bios battery after a lockup. i had it down to 8.83

Wow! Thank you so much for this info... I was debating the 750 over the 860, and this tipped the scales a little more!

Reply to era86

no worries. when you do if you want any of my voltages or settings just ask.

not that mine is anywhere near perfect or anything.

anyone know how to get the 24x multi?

Reply to slickncghia

So, was OCing the i5 easy (or easier I should say) and how hot does it run at 4GHz? I'm thinking of getting one, and OC is the definitely a huge factor in my decision.

Reply to mavanhel

pretty easy. once you learn about the turbo and its effect on the multipliers theres really nothing to it. just keep the memory stable, up the bclk (fsb), up the Vcore and up the Vqpi a little.

http://i320.photobucket.com/albums/nn353/slickncghia/pc%20pics/prime.jpg

there you go. just did a quick stability test at 4ghz.

max temps
73 71 69 71

pretty happy with that with my cheap cooler.

needed a little more volts to be linpak stable. 1.43->1.344

Looks like it's time for you to get some dry ice and tank it!

Reply to mavanhel

What kind of cooler are you using? There aren't very many out there.

Reply to era86

dry ice...not bad...go for it...let's see how far it can be pushed...

cheap as they come. i needed one that was <140mm to fin in my case.

Re:Dry Ice, I'd love to, but i dont have anything for it, ie pot ect. If someone has one that i can borrow i would love too, but its not really worth spending a few hundred bucks just for some benchies

What program is being used to do these OC. I am just now getting back into computers and building a i5 750 gaming computer.

Reply to imafiretruck

program? none. im overclocking in bios baby. Thats the best way to do it.

for tempratures ive found the best is realtemp
for clock speeds: cpu-z
for overclocking gpu: evga extreeme or something
for stability and temp testing: prime95
for max stability testing: linpak (linx)
benchmarks: superpi (my favourite) 3dmark06, 3dmark 05 and userbench encode 2009

^best way...bios...that is absolutely correct...
Not a bad cooler for the money, slickncghia.
I myself have the cooler master V8, but my PII X4 B50 @ 3.4
runs kinda hot so I needed a good cooler.I also wanted it to cool well
and run quiet as well, so I set the fan speed to lowest on my V8 and the
temp still sits at a very nice 32C. I have a lot of room for more overclocking
as 3.4 is only a 300Mhz increase from 3.1 stock...and with such nice temps
I can easily achieve 3.8...and even 3.9 stable with the right settings and a
higher speed setting on my V8...Unfortunately I can only go to 4.01Ghz as I
don't have an SB750 board mine is only an SB710...but oh well, I know my
CPU can go really high with the right hardware...and considering I only spent
$100 on it, I'm as happy as can be...A quad core CPU cable of going up to
4Ghz only for $100!!!!!
Anyway, anything new? a new bench perhaps? what's up?

um some sliiiighly better superpi.

a new pb for 3dmark05 not at extreeme clocks or anything but over 32,000 3d marks cant complain

http://i320.photobucket.com/albums/nn353/slickncghia/pc%20pics/th_3d05.jpg

also did a 3d mark vantage run, again not at extreem clocks but at over 15,000 i a m really happy

http://i320.photobucket.com/albums/nn353/slickncghia/pc%20pics/th_3dvantage.jpg

and my previous best 3d06 run of 22,215. im stocked with the graphics performance of the 750 + 275

Not bad scores for what you got.....here is my rig and some numbers to compare it to.....oh by the way I also like to see what I can do with alot less look at my 3dmark06 score with only 2x$79 cards.....LOL its the 3dmark06 record for 9800gt's in SLI. also think about water cooling its worth it look at my temps.

LOL my best "proovable" score is 8.860 and yours is 8.859 lol thats gold.

http://i320.photobucket.com/albums [...] cs/fsd.jpg

but i did have to run in safe mode to get mine

i actually got 1 run in at 8.82X but it crashed when i was taking a screeny lol. i think i might have to start playing with software oc stuff to see if i can get a new record now.

yeah my 3d 06 scores arent much chop. i wasnt running with the same specs i did on my 05 run. I think a little more is achievable but its pretty damn good for a single gpu. CF/SLI is always going to win in the benchies. but i prefer single cpu.

your cooling is a little more extreeme than my $29 hsf though lol

hey thats cool the I7 really isnt that great at PI my core 2 duo can score higher ...LOL

Reply to itzamedave

yeah i agree I am using a single GTX 260 now because the sli is to noisey and this is an open case and in my living room....lol

Reply to itzamedave

yeah c2d's are the superpi kings. i still think h2o can beat the "coolermaster tx3" which goes for $19 on newegg lol.

does the job but not great for max oc or large 24/7 oc's

mine stays at stock most of the time anyway

Reply to slickncghia

coolmaster coolers are very underestimated and are great but i have no complaints about my swiftech water cooling system other than it cost me $300....LOL

Thanks for all the details! I've clocked my i5 750 up to 3ghz, using the stock cooler (+Arctic5 paste). The temp never goes beyond 59C no matter how hard I push it (e.g. Prime95). The Asrock tools claim the CPU uses a max of 89 watts and 1.26v at 3.0ghz and 59C.

All I did was push bclk to 143, but I had to dock the RAM & QPI multipliers by one to make it pass RAM stability tests (S&M 1.9). I've been extremely cautious and tested overnight several times with S&M 1.9 and Prime95, which are my main reliability benchmarks.

I also have a GTX 275, but at the "auto" fan speed it stays at 40% even after the GPU reaches 83C and I see graphics glitches. My case cooling is not great at the moment, but still, shouldn't auto be smarter? Anyhow, no overclocking my GPU right now.

I use 3dmark06 sometimes, and I must be one of the other 3 people on 3dmark that you're comparing against. I don't use it much, since the free version annoys me. Batman Arkham (free with my EVGA GTX card) comes with a benchmark which includes fog scenes, etc. It's a less universal benchmark, but unlike the free 3dmark06, I can tweak the graphics quality the way I like and see my preferred real world quality & performance, since they are related.

The Asrock p55 deluxe mobo came with some tools that let you tweak your overclocking & monitor your fan speeds, temps, volts and watts. I put the values into CMOS when I'm done. The mobo comes with a cmos clear button -- extremely useful when it doesn't post. :D

Temps, volts, watts, fans: asrock utils
clock speeds: cpu-z when I need the ram timings; asrock utils the rest of the time
overclocking gpu: I tried the precision tool in your screenshots and a) too hot b) unstable. will try again later.
stability & temp: S&M 1.9 (very very good at stability) and prime95 25.11 (very very good creating heat)

just did 8.814 secs :D in full windows this time (not safe mode)

the screen shot of it corrupted (what are the chances :pfff: ) but heres the score anyway

WOW, it's amazing that i5 can OC this much with such a cheap cooler and being much lower than i7-920 in temp and power consumption at the same time.

It's impossible for i7-920 to get this low temp even with the best cooler, the Prolimatech Megaleham, at 4 or 4.2GHz. I wonder how high i5 can reach with the Megaleham!

Shame on i7-920! Doomed Doomed Doomed, i7-920. I think Intel should make their upcoming i7-9xx the same power design as the i5/i7-8xx if any.

Reply to andy5174

that was at 4.75ghz on only 2 cores btw. yeah im impressed, but its definetly not a 24/7 stable oc ;). lots of volts too :|

3.8-4 should be acheivable 24/7 with a decent cooler. id prefer to stick around 3.6->3.8 to keep the volts down.

Reply to slickncghia

Did you say 4.75Ghz? on what cooling?

Reply to videl

4.75ghz on 2cores (the only way i can get the 24x multi on my mobo)

coolermaster tx3
