I was just wondering since its been a while and drivers have had a chance to catch up, and it's now possible to run a phenom on my am2 board, would it be worth it? I know it wouldn't be taking full advantage of the phenom, but I'm looking for a boost over my 3.1gHz 64X2 5000+ BE. has anyone here done this? I guess my other option is to save up for a core 2 quad processor and board when core i7 comes out and hopefully prices on the core2quad drop a lot, but that's still probably going to run me more money than I would like.

Depends on your board. Check the manufacturer's website and see if a bios update will let you run some phenoms. I would use only the 95 watt versions, which should work with your current heatsink. I'm watching Fry's ad for black friday to see what they offer.

the asus site has listed most of the phenoms as compatible, i'm just asking if it would be worth it or not
