Hey all,

I built my first system about a year ago and I just upgraded to a new 24" Samsung monitor on an EVGA 8800 GT 512 MB GPU. Now comes a problem. I don't do gaming, I mostly use my system for school and playing HD videos I download, maybe some photo, video, and music editing here and there. The card does a great job with my everyday stuff but when I try playing my HD videos on my 24" full screen, it looks OK. I get clarity but I want a more crisp picture out of the card. I don't know if its from my end and my inexperience, but I need help in getting a crisper picture out of my 24" and video. My friend suggested I switch to any of the ATI HD 3000 series card to get better pictures out of my video. What do you guys think? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The 8800GT should be fine. Are you using DVI and running at 1920x1200?

I do use DVI to connect my monitor. It should be fine but I'm looking for more details and I was wondering if the ATI HD 3000 or 4000 cards are going to give me a better picture. What are you guy's opinion.

I'm thinking of testing it for myself but I would still like to hear other opinion. You guys have any suggestions on brand wise for ATI cards.

Is it actual HD-DVD/Blu-ray or is it just regular DVD/"HD-Quality" video

Geforce 8 gpus support Nvidia Purevideo which is for processing video and improving quality - can you be more specific about what your problem is?

The videos I'm playing are ones I've downloaded in .mkv formats that's 720p resolution. I want that video to be upscaled to a 24" monitor at full screen. The video does not look stretch out or anything it just does not look a crisp as it did playing it not full screen. I guess when you look at it, I'm looking for a video card that will do a better upscaling if it can compare to what I already have. Sorry to all if I got you all mixed up now.

ati is you best bet for upscaling any 38xx or 48xx series should do the trick

Well, no upscaling can be perfect. No fullscreened 720p will look as good as native 1080p on that monitor. ATI should be slightly better than what you have currently, but the difference shouldn't be huge. If you're picky though, it would give a bit of an improvement.

wouldn't HDMI be better on a 24" thats running HD?

Nope - DVI is the way to go. They both use very similar signals anyways.

I wouldn't use VGA though.

vga for CRT.... unless you have an uber old graphics card i would say dvi all the way... i mean my 7600GS has dual-link DVI lol!
