Folks,

Need your help on the new PC I'm building.

I just bought a Q6600 Core 2 Quad CPU, 2 x 2G Corsair Dominator PC28500 1066MHZ Memory and 2 x XFX 9800 GTX SLI vid cards.

The dilemna I have is on the motherboard that I need for this setup. After hearing and reading through numerous issues with the 780i chipset, I'm on a bind on whether I will pursue buying the ASUS Striker II Formula or the MSI P7N Diamond (both are on 780i). I hear that overheating is a big issue on the northbridge chip for the 780i. And I'm more concerned with stability and compatility of the components with the MOBO.

I'm a serious high graphics gamer, photoshop and lightroom user. But I don't do overclocks.

So, I need help on whether I should go for this 780 setup or just consider the Intel chipset setup.

I don't know if Intel chipsets can support SLI (or if there are MOBOs that has Intel chips+SLI support).

And plus I bought the dominators because I intended to be on the 1066 clock.

Any piece of advise? Are there other options? Do you recommend other MOBOs that are better than the ASUS and MSI mobos i mentioned above?

I heard of the heating "issues", but never heard about it really becoming an issue unless trying to overclock. Just make sure you got a well ventilated casing and you should be ok. As for Intel chipset supporting SLI, I know only one and it's only used on the Skulltrail MB (600$ dual LGA771).

Unless you are planning on SLI with GTX 280s you are much better off with an Intel chipset and ATI GPUs.

If you are stuck now, you'll likely do fine with the 780... you can always throw on an after market chipset cooler if needed.
