I got a phenom II 945 recently and was hitting temps of 56 degrees (load) with the stock heatsink. This is ok but i wanted to overclock it a bit so a bought a scythe shuriken rev. b. Now it is hitting 64 degrees under load! I made sure to apply a very thin layer of high quality thermal paste (Zalman stg1 thermal grease). Any ideas?

Did you overclock with the stock cooler? It would be good to know what that temp was to compare.

Or is the cpu still stock and you've put the new cooler on and it goes 64C?

As for thermal paste, I recall one build where a clear adhesive strip protected the copper base of the heat sink. I didn't see it, applied thermal paste. It went fine, running about 8-10C above normal. Took it apart and found it. Doh!

Anyway, here's a pic showing the adhesive strip - you can just make out the triangular emblem on it:

No, I'm not saying you did this, but that's about the only thing that comes to mind. So long as you don't have a credit card, homework, pizza box, etc. stuck between the cpu and cooler AND the it's all seated right AND the cpu is running stock everything, then I dunno...

The temps were with no over clock, and I removed the protective plastic strip from the heat sink. Thanks for trying though :) I have ordered a cooler master hyper N520 to see if that helps.
