I just got a 9950BE from local socal fry's store for $140. I just need a good/cheap mb (around $80-100) that oc little bit. I want to push the CPU close to 3.0Ghz... I will be using most of my current pc parts (RAM, HD, GPU(s), Case,PSU).
Current system:
Built last early/mid last year
AMD Windsor 5200+ @ 2.8Ghz with Freezer 64 pro
Asus M2N32 SLI Wifi Deluex
4 x 1GB Patriot DDR2 800 (4.4.4.12)
320GB SATA 7200RPM HD
2 x Evga 8800GS (got it from a friend for $120)
Rosewell 550w PSU
Cheap ($30) Rosewell Case with alot of fans
Vista H.P. X86 (got it from a friend for free... he upgraded to X64)
I don't play that much games... just do normal average stuff
Sorry, there is no guarantee that you can OC 9950 to 3.0GHz on nvidia boards. The rumored nvidia chipset that supports Advanced Clock Calibration is yet to be seen, so you'd better stick with 790GX or 790FX with SB750 instead.
Well, the best way to get that CPU over 3.0GHz is with a board that has the 790GX chipset, or the 790FX with SB750 chips. Since you're going the SLi route though I guess you should look at something with a 750a chipset. It's going to cost you a little more than $100 but these are the boards I would recommend.
If you look at any other boards make sure to check the makers website to be sure they support your 9950. I just want you to know that with a BIOS update your current board supports the 9850. If you have the 125W version of the 9950 then you may be able to use it on your board, but of course if it's the 140W version don't even try it. You can check it out at the Asus CPU support page
really? could it run 9950? but will i see all the potential performance out in m2n32 board. m2n32 FSB speed is only 1000MHz Hyper Transport (2000 MT/s) but doesn't 9950 have 2000Mhz ? will i see 2000Mhz on my board?
If i could re-use my m2n32 it will a great... when i got it last year, it was one of the best AMD board you could get... i think i paid almost $200 for it and it had 4 consumer awards on NE.
