Does anyone have stats, forum threads, personal experience or reviews to share regarding optimal use of 30-50" LCD TV (with HDMI inputs) and any medium-to-upper end video card(8800/9600, 3850, 4850,etc.) utilizing (i'd guess) a DVI-->HDMI connector?

This assumes a 'true' 1920X1080P LCD, being used for video editing, 3DStudioMax, standard apps - no gaming.

Yeah. Just hooked up my 42" 1080p tv to my computer last weekend. DVI - HDMI with sound from mobo to surround reciever.

HDDVD and BluRay are 1080p

Television shows connection as 1080p

Changed the DPI in windows to 125% and I didnt have to do anything but change the resolution on the desktop.

VERY happy

No problems at all

For video editing, 3dsmax, etc, why not get a good S-IPS or S-PVA LCD monitor instead?

I've had my HD3870 hooked up to my Samsung 42" (can't remember the exact model) TV for about 6 months now (over 8m cable). I only had minor problems getting the tv to scale 1:1 when I first set it up, but other than that, it works fantastically. I mainly use it for games or DVD's, and ocassionally for work (basic Office stuff) from my couch. ATi's little DVI->HDMI and its onboard sound work a treat. Slight annoyannce with the scaling when changing to non-native resolutions, but that's the TV's fault - just need to change the TV's scaling options to use 100% of the screen (I think this is one of the cheaper 1080p TV's). But at native res, it's a crisp, pixel perfect picture.

I've been using my 32inch Hyundai E320D for about 2 years now as my main display (1280x720). It's exceeded my expectations and my friends are very impressed when the come over and see me playing Crysis or some other high-end game. I always get a kick out of the Xbox/PS3 fanboys that are like, "Yeah, but at least I can sit on my couch and play my Xbox/PS3.".

As far as gaming, multimedia, and general computer usage is concerned, it's amazing. If you're going into high-end video editing, image editing, or any other type of professional work, I'd recommend a nice LCD monitor instead.
