My systems is Dell Inspiron 530:
24” monitor
Mobo: Foxconn G33M02, Core 2 Duo 4400 (original)
Memory; 2 GB (up graded)
Video Card: 8800 GTS (up graded)
Power Supply: Corsair 520
My CPU is to slow to play Crysis. I want to up grade my CPU without spending too much, about $150. I am not planning to OC.
Can I change to e8200 ($145) using the same original cpu fan? I think it is just a standard fun from Intel. If not, do you have any suggestion?
Thanks you.
From what I can find the chipset allows for 45nm multicore cpus, but you should still check with Dell to be certian the bios will support it. Good thing you are not planning to OC, Dell motherboards dont allow it.

As for the heatsink...
Not sure it will be sufficient for an e8200, but it might.
Won't kill it to try, just be absolutely sure you monitor the CPU heat very closely the first time you use it.
If the the temperatures are too high, then you can scrape up 20 or 30 duckets for a decent aftermarket cooler.
-edit- You know, it's probably best to just get an aftermarket CPU cooler for it instead of risking the loss of a new CPU.
The only thing you have to worry about is, as mentioned below, that Dell might be using a propetary mounting system to attach the heatsink (some stupid tension strap with a retaining clip like in the old days).
It is a foxconn board, so they might still be using the standard heatsink mounting holes as any other LGA775 board.

if you try to put an aftermarket cooler on your CPU make sure the 530 doesn't have some sort of weird ducting appendage like the XPS Gen 4 had. Big green plastic thing...pain in the butt. What the heck I got the sys for 1/2 off. crap canned it a yr ago on the plus side it kept my room warm in the winter.

Thank, I got alot of info from here.
YourGodOnEarth, I update the BIOS, and thanks fro the link.
Hey Reynod, your links are helping me alot.
Dell didn't want to give me any help at all. They afraid that I will sue them if anythings goes wrong.
By the way, can any one recommend a good free CPU temperature monitoring software?
