So i got a laptop as many of you know, and i love it when it works. However, on random occasions, it wont make it to the bios screen. I have changed ram and stuff and couldn't really diagnose the problem as it happens at random. Today i just let it sit in its unbooted state because i was so frustrated. Well low and behold it started to boot... sloooowly. The bios screen took almost two minutes to appear and another to disappear. So i wait it out and windows boots. I tried to take a screenie of rmclock but couldn't as it froze up a few minutes into the print screen process, so here is an exact replica in light blue.

The question is, is this a CPU or motherboard problem? I really don't want to wait 4-5 weeks to return the laptop if its the cpu, because i plan of replacing it anyway.

Any expertise is welcome.

Sounds like the hard drive. I would try to repair it with hard drive, or partition tools from boot CD's like Hirens boot CD, and UBCD.

how could it be the harddrive? it doesn't get to the bios screen and the cpu speed is fluttering. that doesn't make any sense.

A bootable CD is easy to try. You might want to repeatedly reboot, try to open the BIOS setup program. Set it to optimal, or default if possible. The CPU is typicaly the most hardy component, and the least likely suspect. When you say the CPU flutters do you mean it sounds like the fan bearnings are bad, or like the speed the the fan is being controlled by temperature, running from fast to slow repeatedly?

a bad component "any component" can do really strange things. You said you have tried new ram, so I would pull hard drive and any modem or network cards that are not onboard and go from there. By the way what laptop is it.

Ill try reboting it a few times w/o the hdd and see if it does it again.
*EDIT*
Nope. took out the HDD and it still flips out.
