Hello guys, I am currently in the process of buying a new motherboard and I am having a hard time choosing which to pick, my picks are: Asus Rampage, Asus Maximus II, or the nForce 780i, as of now I am using an EN 8800GT from ASUS but I will most likely go ATi with their 4870/4870X2 (I'm not quite sure yet). Which board will get me at 3.4GHz on a Q6600 is my main question.

Thanks

If you want to go for ATI, you should buy a ASUS Rampage Formula or ASUS Maximus II Formula.

Welcome to the forums!

If you will be using a single video card, get the P45 chipset, Asus Maximus II Formula.
If you are planning on Crossfire, get the X48, Asus Rampage.
Both should overclock great.

+1 for evongugg's answer.

I think the smartest solution is HD 4870 X2 + a cheaper P45 motherboard. For example the P5Q Pro is $105 at Newegg and the Maximus 2 Formula is $270.

If you prefer two HD 4870 cards make sure they are the 1GB version.

The Asus Rampage Formula is the best DDR2 Mobo ever made.

what's the difference between Rampage and Rampage Extreme? Is it only that the Extreme supports water cooling?

Extreme have more candy ;)
