I'm building a pc specifically for Warhammer. The 8800 GT is 650 Mhz version and the 4850 is the 675 Mhz version. I will be using 4 GB of DDR2@800Mhz and a E8400@3.0 Ghz.

I will be running at a resolution of either 1280 x 1024 or 1440 x 900 depending on whether I get a widescreen or not.

I have a few questions. At this low of a resolution will the performance difference between the two even be significant?

My other question is will the 8800 GT bottleneck the processor at the stock speed of 3Ghz? Also, what about at overclocked speeds of up to 4 Ghz?

Thanks in advance for any help.

At that relatively low resolution, 4850 average only around 5-10% above 8800gt. When higher resolutions are included, the gap goes up to at least 15% or more. 4850/4870's strength lies in good scaling at higher resolutions. Performance of 4850/70 drops more slowly than other cards as resolution increase. Overall, 4850 performs about the same as g92 8800gts/9800gtx. 4850 average 15% higher than 8800gt on all resolutions, higher than 15% at higher resolutions, but can sometimes drop below it on lower ones. g92 8800gts/9800gtx is around 15% higher than 8800gt across the board.

Of course, performance also vary among games.

E8400 at 3.0ghz is far from bottlenecking either 4850 or 8800gt except on a handful of cpu intensive quad optimized games, such as Supreme Commander and Lost Planet.
