i have also put in a new cpu (amd opteron 170, dual core 2.0ghz and another 1gig stick of ram) but i have the removed at the moment well i try to figure out why my system is so unstable.

now my question is if my PSU is good enough to support the system. or if it could simply have gone bad from putting in the new graphcis card that demands alot more power. it is a Viotek 550w ATX The +3.3V rail is 35A, +5V rail is 55A, -5V rail is 0.3A, +12V rail is 18A, -12V rail is 0.8A, +5Vsb rail is 2A. Connectors: One 20 pin ATX main power cable, one 4 pin ATX +12V power cable, five 4 pin peripheral cables, two floppy drive power cables and one 6 pin auxiliary power cable

i have all the latest bio and chip set drivers as well as the nivdia drivers installed. iv done 3 full reformat/reinstalls of the os and still when i try to run a game the system shuts off

im monitoring my system with asus AI booster and these are the voltages i get

CPU: 1.41v
Memory: 2.60v
PCIE 3.33v

btw have have put in my old card (radeon 1300x) and it shut off same at WoW load

your vcore seems a little high. What sort of temps are you getting on your system (you can download realtemp to check, or use the bios to see what it's at idle). It could be that your cpu is overheating and your computer is shuting down to prevent damage.

Another thing to do would be to run memtest86+ for a few hours. This will determine if the problem has anything to do with the ram, although my money is on the cpu overheating.

the cpu over heating was my first thought over a week ago. right now with my current cpu i idel at 32C and with the dual core i idle at around 40C and at full load never go over 55C. i was also thinking the ram

the current ram i use is genaric 512mbx2 ddr 400mhz 184 pin and i bought single stick of 1gig drr3200 400mhz and added that. i know mixing ram can cuase problems but it seemed to work fine at first but i have since taken it out since the problems started. just to test.
is it possible that buy mixing the 2 that i some how currupted the old ram?

It is possible that by using the second stick your board decided on some different timings that the first board didn't like. Make sure to check the RAM timmings, and you may went to set them to their slowest possible value for now. This seems to happen on old nForce Boards sometimes when you mix RAM. Try another PSU, if you have one. It's probably the no name PSU. I'm wondering if that PSU can actually provide a continuous 18A on the 12v rail. Even then 18A would only be decent if there were two 12v rails. If you smell some strange, burnt smell from the back of your computer, then something bad happened in that PSU :D.

Did you remove the old Video Card Drivers?
I see you said that you have the latest nvidia drivers and you have put in your old card radeon 1300x. Not a match there.

Down load something like PC Wizard 2008, or speedfan and tell us what your voltages are...3.3v 5v 12v

Under load, a VGA card will draw more power. Your symptoms are those of insufficient power.

Viotek is a brand of PSU that I have never heard of. You have a 550w psu with a single 18a 12v rail,(strange) and I don't think that is enough. With 550w, only 216w of them go to the 12v part of the psu. It smells of a poor quality unit.

Get a quality unit from Corssair, Seasonic, PC P&C, Antec to name a few.
If the unit provides at least a single 6 pin pcie connector, it should work well for you.

---good luck---

ill look into the timing of the ram, right now i pulled out the old sticks of ram and put in the new stick i ran wow for over 20 min then tryed to alt tab back to this forum and got a blue screen error:( on the bright side the pc didnt just shut off. the psu never smells or even gets hot and both fans seem to work fine. i did relize when i ran cpuid the ram were differnt speeds (the 512x2 were 200mhz and the 1 gig stick was 400mhz) but like is said befor they seemed to work fine togther at for a few days and even after switching them out it still seems to have the same problem

knotknut. yes i have uninstalled, reinstalled, reformated, used older drivers ect over a dozen times now.

that makes alot of sense and i will definetly look into one of those units. but the thing that still bugs me is that i put in my old card that dosnt not use an extra pci-e power adaptor i still got shut down

A low quality PSU will deteriorate with age, and underperform at high ambient temperatures.

ok, i guess that will be my next step then. i just thought it was a strange coincidence that right after i added the GPU,CPU,RAM my PSU decides to go bad. but i guess stranger things have happend. thanks for all the quick responses

With the PC running.
Go to one of the unused Modular Plug.
With a volt meter.
Yellow and Black = 12v
Red and Black = 5v
Find a unused orange wire and one of the black wires above= 3.3v
