I'm a newb.. i just built my first system (Hooray me). Anyways, I have searched for the answer so hopefully I don't get angry do a search forum. Anyways..

The memory was originally set at 1066MHz.. I bumped up the multiplier to 10x for 1333. Now my question.. it's rated for 1600 MHz.. i know that rating is an "overclocked" rating. It gives a rating of 1.8 voltage... that's not recommended for p55 mobos. So to get to 1600 MHz am I out of luck? What settings do I change? Looks like I may be returning this set back to Fry's....

well, don't go over 1.65v, just don't (could fry the memory controller in the cpu)

also, you really won't see a difference between DDR3-1333 and 1600 so don't worry

Well I went with the Corsair Dominator 1600 mhz instead. Do I just set the voltage to 1.65, and that changes the MHz then?

no. you will need to do some reading on overclocking first. second having the memory at 1600 instead of 1333 will make almost no difference. cpu speed is much much more effective. you would probably get better results running at lower speeds with faster latency

basically the memory speed is effected by the bclk (front side bus speed of the processor) you will need to overclock this (therfore overclock the processor) to 160 (standard is 133) this will get you 160 * 10 = 1600mhz

i have the same setup but partiot viper ram which is 1.9v setting to max 1.64 i cannot get the memory to 1600. but it should be fine for memory designed to run at that speed anyway.

but yeah. forget about the ram. just keep the speed <1600 and the volts <=1.65 and you will have no problems.

if you are not overclocking the processor 1600 is a waste. 1600 is only really benneficial for maximum overclocks, when using the smallest multiplier (on your board is 6x) if you had a huge OC then even with the 6X multiplier you might go over 1333mhz, its unlikely you would go over 1600 though

Thanks for the reply. I do plan on reading up on the topic as plan to overclock processor once I get a new heatsink/fan.
