im looking to upgrade at the end of the year but im unsure on what i should upgrade. i have a few componants i want to keep if they are good enough as it gives me more money to spend.

MY SYSTEM
Q6600@ 3.6 GHZ ZALMAN 9600 COOLER
4 GIG( 2X2GIG) CORSAIR DOMINATOR 1066
ABIT IP35 (P35 CHIPSET) MAINBOARD
MSI 8800GTS 512 OC
2 X 250 GIG SEAGATE SATA 2 DRIVES RAID 0 32MB CACHE
AUDIGY 2 SOUND CARD
ANTEC 900 CASE
CORSAIR 520 WATT MODULAR PSU
22" SAMSUNG MONITOR
G15
G5

i want a machine that can play crysis and any other new games really well. i dont like selecting mainstream graphics!!! i dont really know if i should upgrade my cpu or gpu. i looked at toms graphics charts and i demolish all the scores on there for 3dmark 06 for every gpu but i realise their test setup was cpu limited.

i was looking at a gtx 260 216 core overclocked. im not sure if my cpu is good enough tho. i was thinking that i could get a new case (antec twelvehundred) and liquid cool both my cpu and gpu. i know i can overclock my q6600 to 4ghz but it shuts down because of heat thus my idea of liquid cooling.

NEXT PROBLEM! my motherboards onboard lan and audio died during a storm. i replaced these componants with pci cards but i really want a new board so i need advice on a board that overclocks REALLY WELL. with good northbridge coolers etc

would my PSU be enugh for the 260?? i have a few mates who say it would be close?

In this case, you might as well build a whole new computer. Nvidia is supposed to release the gtx 350 very soon which will drive prices down on all the older cards. Either keep your old computer as a spare, give it to your family or sell it to a friend cheap. I would get the e8600. It's dual core but todays games don't take advantage of quad core. Youll be able to get much higher overclocks, ive seen some hit 4.5GHz and pratically everyone gets over 4GHz! You can go back to quad core on 32nm, by then there will be games out for quad core.

Id look into upgrading your monitor as well, either get that 30" 2560x1600 or some 42" LCD TV for big screen 1080p gaming ;)

You are looking at $1000-1500 to build a new computer and about that much for a new monitor. What's your budget now?

really, you think id be better off with a dual core over my current quad?

how much faster are you thinking the 350 is going to be over the 280?

im actually in australia i was hoping to get away with a cheap upgrade and do it soon or wait a bit longer and do the whole system, budget doesnt really bother me to be honest i just wanna be happy with it.

i was looking at a 32" sony lcd tv 1080p for a monitor cos i also want it to be a hd tv

Your computer is already high end, sure you could upgrade your cpu and gpu for a small performance boost. Personally id wait a few months for next gen gpus and for cpu prices to take another dive. Id probably just build a new computer and leave the old one intact, see above post what I suggest to do with that.

Definately consider a 37" or 42" instead for a few $ more. Yes itll be huge, but I believe it's still a pratical size. 32" 1080p makes no sense when bigger is just mare dollars more! I personally have my eye on a 42" for near $1000, just gotta save up. Right now im on a 720p 32" that cost me $500 that I might exchange for bigger.
