Seagate DiamondMAX 21 - STM3250820A

Dear Sirs,
my Seagate DiamondMAX 21 - STM3250820A PCB has gone, as you can see in the attached pictures.
Luckily I have another identical HDD and I tried PCB swap, but with no luck: BIOS won't recognize it. I hear the HDD spinning, but....
I would like to know:
- Should I swap ROM too?
- Which of 8-pin IC is in PCB?
- A "live PCB swap" could solve the problem?
- Is there something other to do (software mode) to make my hard disk be recognized like "HDD Scan and Restoration Program", BIOS indipendent?

Thank you alot in advance for your precious time you will spend to help me.

Best regards

Alex

  1. I don't understand, why did you try a PCB swab instead of just using the new disk to replace the old one? Are you trying to access the data on your old drive?

In any case, I'd suggest you try installing the same ROM used on your old drive into the new one.

  3. All your photo links produce an error message.

If this is your board ...

    http://ep.yimg.com/ca/I/yhst-44463692235217_2145_3123814

... the serial flash memory ("ROM") is the 8-pin chip below the jumper block. It will have a "25" in its part number.

These links should help you identify the components:

    http://www.users.on.net/~fzabkar/HDD/TVS_diodes.txt
    http://hddscan.com/doc/HDD_from_inside.html

What is actually wrong with your board? Does the drive spin up with the original PCB. Did you overvolt it? A common problem is a shorted TVS diode near the power connector, in which case there is an easy DIY fix.
