I just purchased (it has not arrived yet) a Corsair VW 550 power supply and am concerned that the extraeous wiring from the power
supply will inhibit air flow in my case. I have a mid tower case - don't
know what brand, though?

Well you should have bought a modular power supply then huh?

how about buying some cable ties? They cost pennies.

I wouldn't worry too much. just tape/tie/glue them out of the way.

I'm with brian here, just zip-tie them together and tape them to the underside of your optical drive, or down the side next to it.

It should have a bunch of cable ties in the box, mine did

You can also do a bit of Googling and forum surfing. There are lots of good tips posted for cable management.
