Does anyone know if the q6600 decreases its multiplier when it is at idle? Cuz when i pull up cpu-z it first says it is at 3ghz which it has been oc'ed at for months with a 9x multiplier then it will drop to a 6x multiplier when the pc just sits there. The funny thing is I never remember this happening before. Its kinda freakin me out. Lol any input will be appreciated greatly. Thanks

Its Speedstep. All Intel CPUs since the Prescott based Pentium have it and will lower the multiplier to 6x to save power. Wont hurt anything as once it hits about 20% usage it bumps it to the max (9x for Q6600) speed.

How is that crazy? Overclocking to 3GHz is a matter of changing a single value in the BIOS. You don't need to know how or why it works.

the main problem for new overclockers is, in my opinion the colour of the bios - that BSOD blue scares people

Perhaps they should take abit route then... The bios in my ab9-pro is hot pink.

I know how easy randomizer. But still. My thinkin still leaves me to believe that if you know enough to 1st build your own machine(Cause a OEM from dell or whatnot will not allow to you OC). And you enough to go into the BIOS and actually do the simple overclock. You should also be aware of what speed step is. But hey maybe a friend did all the work for him or something.

Humans defy logic. You see it in all the nuclear weapons we have lying around. You see it in the government. You see it in the eyes of die-hard fanboys.
