So I have a Asus ATI HD4850 Graphics card and a Samsung 245BW 24" LCD Monitor which supports 1920 x 1200 Screen resolution.

Currently running Vista 64 with 8.8 Catalyst Control Drivers.

So whenever something like that Vista Admin security pops up or when installing certain applications or files. The Video card seems to fail and drop down to 800x600. normally this wouldn't be a problem as catalyst control should fix the issue and revert to the normal resolution. However with my problem not only does it not revert to the correct resolution but it won't allow for manually changing the resolution to anything but 1600x1080 or whatever.

Anyone have any ideas on this?

Yes, turn off the most obnoxious feature of Vista "User Access Controls". I always turn this off for all Vista computers.
