i just bought a single 2 gb memory without knowing anything about dual channel then after research research read here read there i stumbled upon what is dual channel so my problem is. Is it worth it changing to a 2 gb dual channel or just keep my non dual channel memory?????? HELPPPPPPPP!
No, not a huge difference.
I hope you have checked to make sure your motherboard will support 2 gig modules, some won't. If it does, why not just buy another matching 2 gig module to go with it?
im thinking it now, but im running 32 bit xp so memory size will decrease and will it run in dual channel without any problems? then ill go for another 2gb ram if it can run in dual channel with no problems. And for memory loss, theres 64 bit os i can get for future upgrade. ^ ^
Yes, it will then run in dual. Yes, you will have some of the 4 gigs not used, depending on much RAM is in the rest of your system. The 4 gig of memory a 32 bit OS can use is counting ALL of the memory in your system, such as on the video card, harddrive cache, processor cache, etc.
But having 4 gig of memory will not hurt a thing at all.
