Windows won't recognize my hard drive

I just built a new computer, the problem is when I install windows vista (32 bit). The setup runs fine until it asks me which hard drive to save to, windows doesn't recognize my hard drive and the list of devices to save to is blank. Can anyone help me?

  1. Type of HDD (SATA or IDE)
Can you hear the HDD spin up? Is it the only HDD in the PC?
Sounds like a BIOS issue. Go into the BIOS as see if it's set to AUTO for HDD TYPE
You may have a dead HDD, is it also new or pulled from another computer?
  2. Its a Sata, seagate barracuda 7200.12 500gb. I bought it from newegg.

I bought WD 1TB caviar black, and it recognized it fine. In the BIOS it doesn't show the seagate. I think its broken.
