help... Dual channel kit Works Tri channel?

What make 3-channel work isn't what is written on the package, it's the number of memory modules.
Any 3 modules with the same specs can work 3-channel, but you need 3 (or multiple of 3). If you buy the 3-channel kit and use only 2 modules, it will not be 3 channel; if you buy 2 of the 2-channel kit and use 3 modules (of the 4) you will get 3 channel.

The only "benefit" of buying a 3-channel kit is that if all 3 modules cannot run at rated spec, you can always complain. If you buy a dual-kit + 1 module (even if of the same model as the dual-kit) and they cannot all run at rated spec ... too bad (but normally not a big issue as you can probably fix it by tweaking the BIOS).

BTW, There was an article last week about i7 and it seems that, since the memory controller is now on the CPU, the benefit of 3-channel over dual-channel is close to none.

What OS are you going to install to take advantage of all that memory?
Vista 64?
Linux?
ESX?
