hello to everybody!
my current system is:

e6750
gigabyte x48 ds4
8800 gts 320mb
1Xdvd writer sata
4X120mm fans
2Xhdd sata
TT eureka case
TT v-1 cpu cooler
1 pci sound card

And Corsair HX-520 modular psu with 40A on 3X12rails.

I want to upgrade my gpu to 4870X2 or 4870 in crossfire, does my psu can deliver all that power stable?
In eXtreme Power Supply Calculator my current build is 320W and with 4870X2 it is 523W (with cpu oc to 3600 v1.46)

do i really need an upgrade to my psu?
if not, can i take a risk and try to manage with the hx520 or it will be dangerous?

thank for your honest answer!

When using PSU calculator, I always add 1-2 step above for comfort so in your case I would't go under 550W. However, it costs nothing to try it out if you already have the HX.

I do not think there would be any damage when you would try it out. Worst case would be that i would work find in idle and your computer will restart itself or hang under load if there is not enough power. I would use 650W just to be on the safe side if you can, maybe somehow exchange the PSU to the TX 650W Corsair, one hell of a PSU!

A 4870 X2 would really push the PSU to its limit.
While components indeed are tested to run on high loads forever, you really shouldnt try your luck and go with a higher output unit.

I think youll be OK. However I would not put any extra hardware in the machine than what you have already. Corsair units are quality units and I dont think you would have issues running this PSU at 500 watts at all times. Only issue I see is the lack of an 8 pic PCIE cable. However, its not too hard to mod a 6 pin into an 8 pin.

I've tested that hardware: You'll need a 700W power supply, minimum, to assure stable operation. Get a decent brand.

I was giving him an extra 50W in case he might upgrade his processor later, and another ~50W of safety factor. He needs 600W, but that doesn't leave any room to grow.

thanks to everybody.
I can see that some of you say that, and some of you say another.
I'm not gonna change my psu soon cause it's to expensive here.
a good 750 power supply like the 750TX is something like 250$ here in this country.
so I chose to wait until Ati will release their hd5 series which should include DX11 and 40NM.
I think that the 40NM TECH will help decrease the power supply demands don't you think?
I can stay with the 8800gts 320MB for awhile.
i have 24" dell ultrasharp monitor and I can play today games on 1680X1050, so I can wait till the begging of next year.
what do you guys thinking about this?
